Our honeymoon adventure was officially underway, and the first stop on the map was the KOA in Ypsilanti, Michigan. After all the wedding festivities and excitement, it felt surreal to finally be pulling into our first campground with the Airstream—our new home on wheels for the next several months.

The reason we chose Ypsilanti was a special one: we wanted to visit my now brother-in-law and meet his new girlfriend. It was the perfect chance to start our journey with some family time and catch up over laughs, stories, and good food. Spending that time together made the stop extra meaningful.

While we were there, I also had the opportunity to connect with some new co-workers. My company had made an acquisition six months earlier, and some of the team members I barely knew happened to live nearby. Meeting them in their environment, outside of the Teams calls and work emails, was a refreshing experience. It gave me a whole new perspective on the people I’d be collaborating with and reminded me how much stronger connections can become when you share a little real life.

Greenfield Village

We also spent a day exploring Greenfield Village, and it completely blew us away. The innovation, history, and sheer creativity on display there were incredible. Walking through time and seeing how so many groundbreaking ideas came to life left us both inspired. It’s one of those places that makes you realize just how far human ingenuity has carried us—and sparks excitement for the future, too.

Before leaving town, we wandered into a local makers market and flea market. It was such a joy to see the creativity and talent of so many people gathered in one place. From handmade crafts to unique artwork, every booth was filled with passion. We left not just with a few treasures, but with fresh inspiration from the artistry and dedication of others.

Ypsilanti turned out to be the perfect first stop on our honeymoon journey—family, connections, history, and creativity all wrapped into one. With the Airstream hitched up again, it was time to see where the road would take us next. Our journey continued to Sandusky, Ohio, where we were set to meet my best friend’s family and spend a day of thrills at Cedar Point. From reconnecting with loved ones to chasing adrenaline on roller coasters, stop number two was sure to keep the adventure rolling.
