One evening in Cody, Wyoming, we set out on a simple drive, hoping—just maybe—to spot a few of the wild horses that call this rugged country home. These herds, descendants of early ranch stock and mustangs that adapted to the high desert over generations, are woven into the region's history. But nothing prepared us for what we found. As the light softened across the valley, we rounded a bend, and suddenly there they were—around 50 wild horses scattered across an open field—bays, blacks, sorrels, paints… every color you could imagine. Many were pregnant, including this breathtaking blonde-maned mare, standing firm and serene against the Wyoming sky. They grazed, nuzzled, and periodically took off in bursts of energy, running through the grass like the land belonged entirely to them. It was one of those rare moments that stops you in your tracks and reminds you just how alive the West still is.
